In QVscribe, Configurations are the rule sets that determine how your statements are analyzed. To kick things off, we provide four initial configurations designed to get you up and running quickly.
Configuration Authors can tailor the rules to align with their team’s writing style or organizational standards. QVscribe also provides four Starting Configurations (QV1–4), each designed for a different type of technical document. You can choose the one that best fits your use case, then fine-tune it to suit your team’s specific needs, including adding a Glossary of defined terms!
Users can select from the available configurations using a dropdown menu in the QVscribe interface.
Friendly reminder: Only Configuration Authors can make changes, but all users can see the details of the ruleset.
Here is a quick breakdown of the four starting configurations:
- QV1 System Requirements: Aligns the most with the INCOSE Guide for Writing Requirements and is best suited for system, subsystem, or functional requirements; those that define the actions a system must perform under specific conditions.
- QV2 Project Requirements: Suited for requirement sets where every statement is mandatory, but not necessarily all are functional. It supports a mix of high-level and low-level, functional and non-functional requirements, each describing a feature or capability that must be included in the final product.
- QV3 Atomic Statements: Ideal for writing standards that may include a combination of requirements and recommendations. Like QV1 and QV2, this configuration enforces one imperative per statement (e.g., shall, must, will) but also allows optional provisions, as seen in ISO standards.
- QV4 Clear Statements: Ideal for reviewing legacy or external documents that won't be reformatted, this configuration helps identify risks and flag ambiguous language, while still allowing optional phrasing and non-mandatory recommendations.
Fun fact: The strictness of the ruleset decreases as the configuration number increases (e.g., QV1 to QV4).
